Working Definition of Rhetoric

Rhetoric is the study and uses of written, spoken, and visual language, and how these facets of language can be used to persuade. A major example would be legislation, as rhetoric is used in the composition of written and oral proposals to courts of law, councils, and other forms of leadership. Rhetoric focuses on the efficacy of persuasion in a professional setting through a multitude of techniques.
