1.
DIALOGUE:
The way the worker talks to the robbers helps to bring down the tension, as
well as she is the one who puts into words the functions of the advertised
product.
a.
She
says that she knows who the robber is because the adobe app sends an alert when
a customer has arrived. The fact that she knew who the guy was is funny,
because he does not want to be recognized, but it also highlights a key feature
of the product.
b.
The
casual way the worker talks to a bank robber who intended to commit a crime is
also funny. For example, calling him “sugar” like he is a little kid shows how
she sees him as a non-threat, when in reality, she should be extremely scared
c.
The
tone of the conversation starts out with the worker seeming scared, but as she
lists the functions of the product and talks to the robbers, the tension lifts.
This is a double entendre in a way, because it implies that if this product can
relieve stress during a bank robbery, it can certainly make financial decisions
less stressful for the average consumer.
2. Music: the music moves with the
atmosphere
a. The intense music at the beginning
draws the audience to the severity of the situation.
b. The abrupt stop of the music when
the clerk uses the product to identify the robber is comedic, because it takes away
the menacing nature of the crime.
3. Interaction between the Two Robbers
a.
The
verbal interaction between the two robbers is funny, because in the middle of
the robbery, they seem to address a personal issue, how Mr. Johnson is looking
for a house and the two are roommates. The second robber’s obliviousness to
this fact seems to hurt his feelings, and the fact that they are talking out
such a personal issue during a robbery is funny to the audience of the
commercial.
b.
This
interaction also helps to outline yet another benefit of the product, bundling
student loans, which the second man was having problems with. The introduction
of the second robber helped to make him seem less threatening as well, which
adds to the humor of this commercial.
c.
The
talk between the two robbers shows that they are just roommates who have fallen
on hard times, and in their desperation, they are robbing a bank. The clerk
interjects how the product can be useful for their financial struggles,
implying to the audience that if you are struggling with financial decisions,
Adobe experience cloud can help make it easier.
Effectiveness
Claim-This commercial
is partially effective in fulfilling its purpose, because the ironic humor
coupled with the real-life examples of how the product is used makes sense.
Reason: However, the bank robbery setting of the commercial
is so intense that it may overshadow the true purpose of the commercial.
1. For
example, I had to look up what this product was. At first, I thought it was an
ad for a bank.
2. Even
though it says “Adobe experience cloud” at the end, I feel as though the ad
itself was not incredibly clear on what the product was.
3. It
did explain the functions of the product, but I feel like an audience of
average consumers would have to do research of their own to see what the
product actually was.
4. The
bank setting confused me a lot, and I think a better commercial would be
focusing more on what the product actually is.
5. The commercial was very entertaining and
humorous with the dialogue effectively illustrating the uses of the product,
the music setting the tone, and the interaction between the robbers adding
comic relief, but in the end, the commercial was too focused on the bank
robbery scene and could have been more focused on clearly showing what was
being advertised.
